    This paper outlines the process of collecting and critically examining the community response to rural one-room school closures in the Peterborough/Cavan region during the late fifties and well into the sixties. To gather reactions the author conducted a comprehensive literature of local histories, conducted interviews of past pupils and teachers of local one-room schools, the examination of post-war education theory an policy.
